Membership Levels
Why are there different membership levels?

CAMAP offers different membership levels to recognize the varying roles and levels of involvement in Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). Each membership level is designed to provide access to the benefits and resources most relevant to that member’s role.

General Professional Membership is intended for individuals who are professionally engaged in or connected to Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) but do not independently assess or provide MAiD. This includes licensed professionals anticipated to be involved in MAiD, administrators, coordinators, allied health professionals, pharmacists, researchers, educators, individuals affiliated with MAiD support organizations, and those with significant past professional roles related to MAiD.

If you are preparing to become involved in MAiD but have not yet independently assessed or provided MAiD, you should apply for General Professional Membership. Once you begin independently assessing or providing MAiD, you may contact us to request a review of your membership level.

Yes. Individuals enrolled in the Canadian MAiD Curriculum are eligible to apply for General Professional Membership, provided they meet the other applicable membership criteria.

Assessor and Provider Membership is intended for licensed physicians (MDs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) who currently and independently assess eligibility for MAiD and/or provide MAiD. Applicants must have completed a MAiD assessment or provision within the past 12 months.

Assessor and Provider Membership includes access to role-specific member forums. To help maintain the integrity of these forums, applicants must complete a personal attestation and provide a professional reference confirming their recent MAiD activity.

“Active within the past 12 months” means you have independently completed at least one MAiD assessment or provision within the 12 months preceding your membership application or renewal.

If you do not currently meet the requirements for Assessor or Provider Membership, but otherwise meet CAMAP’s membership criteria, you may be eligible for General Professional Membership. Once you meet the eligibility requirements, you may contact us to request a review of your membership level.

Yes. If you begin independently assessing or providing MAiD after becoming a member, you may contact us to request a review of your membership level. You will be asked to complete the required attestation and provide a professional reference confirming your current MAiD activity.

Care Coordinator Membership is intended for healthcare professionals who administer and coordinate organized MAiD programs in institutional or regional settings, supporting patient navigation and coordination of MAiD services.

Trainee Membership is intended for students and residents enrolled in an academic or professional training program who are preparing for future involvement in MAiD practice.

Applicants must provide proof of current enrolment and details of their academic or professional training program as part of the application process.

How Do I Apply?
How do I apply?

Choose the membership level that best reflects your current role in MAiD from the options above, complete the online membership application, and submit the required information. We will review your application and verify your eligibility. If your application is approved, you will receive an email with a secure link to pay your membership fee. Your membership will become active once payment has been received.

A professional reference helps us verify your current or anticipated involvement in MAiD and ensure you are assigned the appropriate membership level. This verification process helps maintain a safe, trusted, and respectful professional community by ensuring that members have a verified professional connection to MAiD and meet our membership criteria.

Your reference should be someone familiar with your MAiD-related work or anticipated role, such as a colleague, supervisor, program lead, or educator. Where possible, references should be current CAMAP members.

Once your application is submitted, we will review your eligibility and verify any required supporting information, including your professional reference. Please allow up to two weeks for your application to be reviewed. Processing times may vary depending on the completion of reference verification and the volume of applications received. You will be notified by email once a decision has been made.

Yes. All membership applications are reviewed to ensure applicants meet the membership criteria and are applying for the appropriate membership level. If an application does not meet the eligibility requirements, we may decline the application. If this occurs, the applicant will be notified by email with further information.

Maintaining Your Membership
Why do Assessors and Providers need to complete an annual attestation?

Annual attestation is part of CAMAP’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its membership by confirming that Assessor and Provider Members continue to meet the eligibility requirements for their membership level.

General Professional Members and Care Coordinator Members are not normally required to provide another reference when renewing, unless additional verification is needed or they are renewing after their membership has been inactive for an extended period. Members renewing as Assessors or Providers will be asked to provide an updated reference when completing their annual personal attestation.

Yes. We recognise that there may be circumstances where an individual remains actively engaged in MAiD despite not meeting the 12-month activity requirement. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If you have been away from active MAiD practice for reasons such as parental leave, medical leave, retirement while remaining professionally engaged, rural or remote practice, or other exceptional circumstances, please contact us. Your eligibility may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
