Fall Symposium 2025 – Navigating Complex Cases (Part 2)

    Monday, July 7, 2025 @ 12:00 am EDT
As MAiD cases grow in complexity, clinicians are increasingly called upon to assess nuanced issues of capacity, consent, and cognitive decline. This session will explore two challenging clinical scenarios: the first will examine capacity assessments where mental health conditions are present, emphasizing the importance of thorough documentation and reference to the CAMAP guidance. The second case will focus on cognitive decline and the use of waivers of final consent in patients with dementia. Practical tools and clinical strategies will be shared to help participants apply best practices in real-world decision-making.

Fall Symposium 2025 – Navigating Complex Cases (Part 1)

    Monday, July 7, 2025 @ 12:00 am EDT
This session will explore the clinical and ethical complexities involved in MAiD assessments through two detailed case studies. The first case will focus on frailty and the nuances of assessing eligibility in this context, concluding with a practical frailty assessment tool for use in clinical practice. The second case will highlight the role of prognosis and rehabilitation potential, with insight from a physiatrist on timelines for various diagnoses. Together, these cases will prompt discussion on key questions such as: Who should you consult? When? And how do you determine Track 1 versus Track 2 eligibility?

    Monday, July 7, 2025 @ 12:00 am EDT
Are you interested in MAiD but not sure where to begin? Join us for an open Q&A and discussion session designed specifically for clinicians who are new to MAiD or exploring the possibility of becoming involved.
