SUMMARY:Ask Me Anything with Dr. Konia Trouton
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an upcoming Members-Only Ask Me Anything (AMA) session featuring Dr. Konia Trouton\, focused on cognitive assessment and capacity in the context of MAiD. \nDr. Trouton brings extensive clinical\, academic\, and leadership experience to this discussion\, including her role as Co-founder and Past President of CAMAP and her work with the MAiD Death Review Committee at the Office of the Chief Coroner in Ontario. \nAssessing cognition and capacity in the context of MAiD can present some of the most nuanced and challenging clinical situations encountered in practice. Questions may arise around fluctuating cognition\, communication barriers\, neurocognitive disorders\, psychiatric comorbidities\, delirium\, timing\, and how to approach uncertainty while remaining grounded in legal and clinical requirements. \nIn this Members-Only Ask Me Anything (AMA) session\, Dr. Konia Trouton will lead an interactive discussion focused on practical approaches to cognitive assessment and capacity evaluation in MAiD care. Designed for clinicians and MAiD team members\, this session will provide an opportunity to explore real-world challenges\, ask questions\, and reflect on approaches to complex cases in a supportive peer-learning environment. \nWhether you are newer to MAiD practice or have extensive experience\, this AMA aims to foster thoughtful discussion and practical insight that participants can apply in their clinical work. \nQuestions we’ll explore include: \n\nHow do clinicians approach capacity assessments when cognition may be fluctuating?\nWhat are important distinctions between cognitive impairment and incapacity?\nHow should assessors approach cases involving dementia or suspected neurocognitive disorders?\nWhat role do timing and trajectory play in MAiD capacity assessments?\nHow can clinicians navigate situations involving communication challenges or uncertainty?\nWhat documentation considerations are important in complex cognitive or capacity assessments?\nHow can clinicians balance clinical judgment\, legal requirements\, and ethical considerations in difficult cases?\nWhat practical strategies can support confidence and consistency in assessments?\n\nThis is a free\, members-only session. Registration is required. \nHave a question you’d like to submit in advance? Submit it here.  \nThis is a member-only event. Members\, please be sure you are logged into your CAMAP account to register for this session.
